Tooling Specifications
  • Dies shall be constructed of P-20 steel pre-hardened to 28-30 Rc. Equivalent steels may be used only when approved by Martin Pultrusion Group.
  • Die sections shall be stress relieved after rough machining.
  • Steel shall be sized to provide a minimum of 1.250 inch from the edge of the cavity to the outer edge of the steel.
  • Entrance and exit ends shall have a .250" radius.
  • Cavity surfaces shall be polished to a 10 micro-inch finish or better.
  • Cavity and radiused ends of the die should be hard chrome plated to .001" to .0015" thickness.
  • Parting lines shall be chrome plated around the corners and sparked off.
  • All inserts shall be finish ground after assembly to assure best match for even heating by platen or strip heaters.
  • All die surfaces to be parallel to within +/-.001" along the length of the die.
  • Jack screws shall be provided to facilitate complete disassembly of the die.
  • All insert retainer bolts shall be standard a length 3/8" - 16 thread.
  • All die assembly bolts shall be a standard 1/2" - 13 thread.
  • The use of non standard bolts must be approved by Martin Pultrusion Group and one extra set of these bolts provided with the finished die.
  • Minimum bolt thread engagement shall be one half-inch (1/2").
  • Where practical, tap drill holes shall be drilled through to facilitate clean-out of resin and debris.
  • Die and cavity dimensions, dowel and bolt hole patterns, mandrel lengths and tolerances shall be specified separately.
